Beyond the News

WHO ISN'T PITCHING?

As managers look to preserve their bullpens during already out-of-reach games, the number of position players stepping in to pitch has exploded. Through 9/15, MLB position players made a record 142 pitching appearances — a 446% increase from 10 years ago and more than the number of appearances from 1969 through 2001 combined.
